Our very own Beth Shriever wins the UCI BMX World Cup final in Belgium. She offers some advice for students interested in BMX racing.
Beth Schriever works as a teaching assistant at Dame Bradbury's - when she's not doing that she's taking the world by storm representing Great Britain in competitive BMX racing. It's still very early in the season but Beth continues to go from strength to strength! Having come off the back of the 2017 season as Junior Women World Champion, Beth has won her first UCI BMX World Cup win with a nail-biting finish.
We checked in with Beth and asked her about her BMX experience and how to get involved in BMX racing!
How did you get into racing?
I got into BMX through my brother, his friend's dad was the coach at Braintree BMX Club. We were invited one day to have a go and haven't looked back since.
How can we can involved in BMX racing?
My advice for the students at SPF, is to search where your local track is, probably Braintree, and come down to one of the training sessions and give it a go. If you don't have a fully functioning bike, there are ones to borrow usually at the track. Look on their website for more details about sessions (http://braintreebmx.com/coaching/coaching.htm). The training is always fun and great for beginners, the perfect way to start your BMX journey.
What's next?
The next big goal is to make it to 2020 Tokyo Olympics! And in the process, continue making world cup and world championship finals/podiums.
Beth still has plenty of upcoming events still to come this year and we wish her all the best of luck!
