Learning at Dame Bradbury’s doesn't just take place in the classroom, we take every opportunity to get out and about to expand our horizons.

We use day trips to introduce new experiences, that both educate and amuse, as well as building social skills and supporting emotional development.

trips

Trips might include:

Forest School - Reception

Every week, our Reception children visit Forest School, just a few miles from our site. We go in all weathers and love every minute. Activities include setting up a camp, building a house for the Three Little Pigs, finding out how binoculars work, testing their strength and learning to use a saw safely.

Local visits

Saffron Walden itself boasts an excellent museum and art gallery, as well as Bridge End Garden and a locality full of history. We collaborate frequently with the Junior School, our sister school in Cambridge, either at Dame Bradbury's or in Cambridge itself, using the rich resources of the city to further excite and stimulate learning and discovery.

Further afield

Our pupils visit London, be it for theatre trips, the National Gallery, the Houses of Parliament or Westminster Abbey, to name a few; and venture to a variety of other sites of historical, religious or other cultural interest too.

Residential trips:

Norfolk Lakes/Grafham Water - Year 4

We spend 2 nights, 3 days at an outdoor centre honing our outdoor skills and complementing our focus on outdoor learning. Pupils will explore staying away from home for the first time with school, outdoor pursuits and bushcraft skills.

Peak District - Year 5

The Peak District residential offers opportunities to experience a range of outdoor adventure activities covering our key learning habits, in a fun-filled week of new experiences.

Snowdonia - Year 6

In Year 6 we challenge all our Year 6 to reach the summit of Mount Snowdon. We learn about physical geography, as well as exploring the natural environment by rock climbing, gorge scrambling and mountain walking.

Optional residential trips

Ski Trip - February half term

We join other Year 5 and 6 pupils from the Junior School for an annual ski trip.

French or Spanish Trip - October half term

Year 5 and 6 pupils can also enjoy a four-day trip to Northern France or Spain. It's a great opportunity to practise language skills and to enjoy the culture and atmosphere of the country.
