6th Form

Entry requirements

We’re a high-achieving Sixth Form so most students joining us are predicted top grades in all
the subjects they’re planning to study at A Level. However, we’re looking for academic potential above all else. We want bright, curious young people who love to learn - we don’t discriminate based on educational background.

An offer of a place at Sixth Form will be conditional on achieving a satisfactory school reference and the required results at GCSE or equivalent.

Our offers are tailored to the individual applicant but, as a guide, we would require a minimum of 56 points for the eight best (I)GCSE results. For all subjects studied beforehand, we expect at least a Grade 7 at GCSE in that subject (or equivalent). For further maths, a Grade 8 in maths is required.

For subjects not studied before we expect:

  • Film: 6 in English
  • Philosophy: 7 in English or another essay subject

  • Politics: 7 in History or English

  • Economics: 7 in English or another essay subject

  • Psychology: 6 in maths or a science & 6 in an essay subject

  • Sociology: 7 in English or another essay subject

  • Business: 6 in English & 5 in Maths

Offers are based on the subject choices declared on the application form. Should students later
decide to alter the choice of subjects, this will be subject to availability and further aptitude tests
may be necessary.

Admissions process

If you’re applying for a place at our Sixth Form, you should have already had some great
conversations with current staff and students. If not, we’d encourage you to visit us and get to know us better.

When you apply to join the Stephen Perse Sixth Form, you’ll be required to:

1. Sit an entrance assessment test - this is a computer-based Cognitive Ability Test which consists of three sections, each lasting 45 minutes. It’s designed to test your approach to critical thinking – you may be asked to look at the logic, consistency and persuasiveness of the arguments on either side of the debate, for example.

2. Have a general interview with the Head of Sixth Form - this will help us get to know you better and give you the chance to ask us your questions too. If you’re choosing to study Chemistry, Physics or a Language (MFL) you’ll also need to have an interview with the Head of Department in that particular subject area. If you’re applying for a scholarship, you’ll need to sit a scholarship test. You’ll also sit a critical thinking test, that asks you to look at the logic, consistency and persuasiveness of the arguments on either side of a debate.

Remember to apply for a scholarship by the closing date as you will sit your scholarship test on
the same day as the main entrance assessment test (see Key dates section on this page for
closing date). Unfortunately, late applications to the Sixth Form will not be eligible to apply for a
scholarship.
